Posted by Ken Gurton April 23 is the official Feast Day of St. George, the patron saint of cavalry. Also, Col. William Henry Parsons, the founder and commander of the 12th Texas Cavalry, was born on April 23, 1826. So, Saturday at the testimonial fire we’ll be celebrating both the Feast Day of St. George and Col. Parsons’ 180th Birthday! Over the next few weeks, let’s come up with some ways to mark such a significant occasion. For example, perhaps we can concoct a St. George’s Day punch, similar to what the Artillery does for St. Barbara’s Day ( http://www.wesclark.com/jw/barbara.html ). Of course, we’ll also make a non-alcoholic version for those under 21 and those that do not partake of spirits. Naturally, we’ll have to have a birthday cake, but I’m not sure if we’ll attempt to have 180 candles on it. Also, since we’ll be on the Confederate Reunion Grounds, we’ll definitely take the time to honor those who served back than, and our very own Knights of St. George who are veterans. Anyway, it should be a great event and I am really looking forward to seeing everybody there. Please feel free to put forward additional suggestions for the celebration so we can make it a good one. Your Obedient Servant, Capt. Mike Mills

Looks like fun
Mexia is always a fun event at a great site – the Confederate Reunion Grounds. This year, since it falls on April 21 – 23, it will be even more fun than usual.
