Fellow Cavalrymen:
I would like to invite you and your cavalry unit to participate in this year's Southwest Regional Cavalry Games, which will take place in the historic Fort Worth, Texas Stock Yards on May 13-15, 2005. These games will give the cavalryman the chance to compete in mounted courses against fellow cavalrymen from all across the country. All 19th Century cavalry impressions are welcomed ( ie, Dragoon, Civil War, Indian War, etc), however all riders must compete in period clothing, as well as period saddles and tack representing their particular time period. There will be individual Saber and Pistol courses, as well as a Combination Course (Pistol & Saber), which will also include low jumps. These courses will be broke down in beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, so all have a chance to win!
There will be outdoor stalls available on a first come first served basis. There is also plenty of room for horse trailer and tent camping. The Fort Worth Stock Yards is high tourist area, so we expect large crowds during this competition. Friday is School Day and we plan to set up some of the courses on Friday to give the participants a chance to practice and demonstrate our skills to the school kids. The games officially begin at 9 AM on Saturday morning starting with the Saber Course, then the Pistol Course, and followed by the Combination Course. After the games on Saturday there will be a period Grand Ball for all participants, which will include a dinner and dance, so be sure to bring your significant other. All ball participants MUST be in period clothing. The Cavalry Games Awards will be presented at the Grand Ball on Saturday night. On Sunday we will have Platoon Drill demonstrations for the public.
The Fort Worth Stock Yards is a great place to host these games, and there are many restaurants and shops to check out during your free time during the day. The Stock Yards also offer a wide variety of night life from indoor rodeos and Wild West Shows to Billy Bob's the world's largest Honky Tonk. Come join us for the fun!
