Hey, I just wanted to say I loved your story "of the Remaining' very much! I thought I'd left a review but I guess I didn't. And your right, just about all SH22 stories are mush, pure mush. I admit that, like you, I prefer more serious works. Romance is all well & good, but in the end it's the life & death stories that matter most. So, please keep writing! I didn't know there was a part two & would be very thrilled to read it! Oh, and I'm going to leave that review right now..... ![]()
: Hey Maureen....
:
: This has really been bugging me lately. Do
: you have any statistics on the genre of
: fanfic on your site? I admit I almost did a
: quick analysis on ff.net to see but I always
: did prefer your collection of stories over
: theirs. I ask this because, I am kind of
: curious as to the number of romance stories
: as opposed to basically, anything else.
:
: Yeah, I ask this because I think my "Of
: the Remaining" story may have been
: ill-recieved, probably due to genre. When I
: became inspired to start writing that story
: (and it consumed my writing and planning for
: months because the material in it is just so
: different from what I'm used to writing, and
: I wanted it to be good) the material, the
: ideas I had for it, the moment of despair
: just grabbed me and pulled me in! Yet, I
: don't seem to see any other stories like
: that. Are there really a good number of
: tragedy's on this site? I think I read one
: a while back, from Holmes' PoV surrounding
: his death (can't remember who wrote it
: now...been years) but it's the only one I
: remember. I was shocked to find I was the
: only tragedy on the ff.net pages. =/
:
: It wasn't just something I noticed with my
: "of the remaining" but with other
: authors who write tragedys. Is a happy
: ending really that necessary?
:
: I had originally planned the "Of the
: Remaining" to be 2 chapters and an
: intro (haha...the intro was ill-recieved...I
: wonder now if anyone will dare chance to
: read the actual first chapter when I finish
: it lol). I guess, what bothers me is that,
: if it doesn't smell like a romance story or
: some similiar kind of fluffy sugary syrupy
: (okay... I despise sweets so the
: description is already making my stomach
: turn) caramelized plot, no one really wants
: to read it. I love the idea for my story,
: and I feel I actually accomplished something
: with it!
:
: Of course, whenever I reflect upon the
: intro, I do get depressed (like now) and
: this is what has been killing my desire to
: complete it (and distracting me from my
: other stories as well). v_v
:
: I have a shameful truth to admit... I
: rarely write happy endings. I think the
: only ones I've written thus far are for my
: one-shots. Have I set myself up for this?
:
: Well, I quickly ran through the numbers and
: a quick percentage for the SH22 page on
: ff.net (though I didn't want to...it pained
: me to click the mouse with that intent) came
: out to be 41.5 percent of the romance genre.
: A little less than I expected, but still a
: whopping portion of the stories.
:
: I guess in summary, I just want to know...
:
: Why a happy ending? Does despair and pain
: not have a place in life? What makes
: romance so necessary? ~sighs~
:
: Perhaps I just don't understand. I'm sorry,
: Maureen, if I've troubled you with all of
: this. I just had to get it off my chest,
: and I felt no other sh22 fan out there would
: really give it any real thought more than
: our very own SH22 guru (you). Regardless,
: thanks for listening.
