Chapter 10: In Which Our Favorite Villain Makes His Move
In the living room, Holmes and Holmes were huddled together around what appeared to be a roll top desk with an elongated computer screen protruding upwards from the top of it.
Looking back at them from the screen was a tall blonde woman in a red suit seated behind a desk, she looked like a news broadcaster, Theodore found her to be rather superficial.
The only thing that he found weird about her though, was the fact that she kept stopping in the middle of every report and saying ‘more on demand’ at which point 2103 Holmes would tell her, addressing the computer screen ‘More’ then she would start up again with more information.
1800 Holmes turned around when the woman paused again.
“Thank you for joining us Mr. Trent, this should prove interesting”
Theodore didn’t think it would be. But you never knew, he walked around to stand on the right side of 2103 Holmes as, understandably, he seemed to have a firmer grasp of the situation.
It was then that he saw the Sytholin leaning in the corner beside the desk. It was not at all sleek looking, nor did it have the poetic form of its wooden ancestor. He had only been thinking a moment about how he wished he could give 2103 Holmes back his Stradivarius when the aforementioned detective nudged him.
“Pay attention Theodore.”
“Sorry sir.”
“This morning at 2:41am…” began the blonde woman on the screen “a robbery of a most shocking nature occurred at the home and laboratory of Dr. Thomas Powell…”
“You know something of him?” observed 1800 Holmes; it was more of a statement then an inquiry and probably in answer to a facial expression or movement by his counterpart.
“Only that he dabbles in molecular theory and sequencing in addition to his medical studies.”
1800 Holmes looked thoroughly bewildered.
The newscaster began speaking again:
“The culprits were spotted trying to make their getaway through a fire escape which also appears to have been their method of entry; the hatch was melted open with a modified ionizer made to cut through metal at a molecular level.
The laboratory it’s self was thoroughly searched. With the result that only a small plastic tube containing blueprints for an invention of the doctor’s was taken, out of nearly six million credits worth of scientific and medical equipment.
The culprits have been described by the security guard who was on duty at the time - a Mr. Henry Mazzie - the first being very tall with well defined muscles and the second unusually short with white tinted skin and having a small amount of grizzled red hair.
This was all he was able to make out in the dim light before being rendered unconscious. These men are considered armed and extremely dangerous, caution is advised.”
“The doctor has declined to furnish us with any information concerning the contents of the stolen blueprints and we can only assume that they are of great valuable.
The case is in the hands of the brilliant, young New Scotland Yard inspector: Elizabeth Lestrade who will no doubt bring the case to a swift and satisfactory conclusion.
And now; a few words with chief inspector Grayson of New Scotland Yard with regards to the case…”
The screen changed to show a heavy, pompous looking man with grey hair and mustache. He was speaking loudly, almost yelling, in a harsh British accent which seamed to fit him very well. Theodore instantly disliked him.
1800 Holmes was the first to speak after the screen had been turned off “I presume that Elizabeth Lestrade is the same young woman of whom you told me?”
“Indeed, she should arrive at any moment.”
“I was not aware that she was in the habit of dropping by without first ‘phoning’ I believe you called it”
“Yes, however, she knows that we will have seen the news, and will be on her way by now.”
“Of course, I should have thought of that.”
“You have no knowledge of her habits.”
“That is true” 1800 Holmes did not seem encouraged.
“So, Theodore...” 2103 Holmes began, turning to him “what do you think?”
“Of the robbery?”
“Well yes…but I meant more in the line of what was stolen, why and by whom”
