Tor Books is going to set up some kind of blog/fanzine/forum site, with free ebooks to reel in the masses. At the moment, they are giving away free wallpaper and ebooks (and will keep giving them away on a rolling basis, so the earlier you sign up the more stuff you get) to people who pre-register their emails with them. So I thought I'd give you folks here a heads' up.
The current free ebook is Farthing by Jo Walton. I like Jo a lot from the old days on rec.arts.sf.written, and I have no idea why I keep bouncing off her books. Nobody else seems to have this problem, so read and enjoy.
Next week's free ebook is Crystal Rain by Tobias Buckell. I think he's brilliant and fun, and I definitely recommend Crystal Rain. (I kick myself for not jumping on the Buckell train earlier, as I attended a convention with him when nobody else had heard of him -- and didn't go to any of his talks or panels or readings. Sigh.)
