He could see the damaged tank, full of big and bigger pieces of metal, and, he gasped, the place he had been waiting under the water, it was completely barricaded in, or rather, obviously had been until a certain someone had wrenched an enormous piece of some strange steel looking stuff out of the way.
It was strange, this spectacle reminded him, for some reason, of the scenery in his brother’s fish tank, except this was three hundred times the size and looked as though it were meant to hold a family of killer whales rather then goldfish.
Making another visual sweep of the room, Theodore was startled to see Moriarty rushing toward him “Get him! Get the boy you incompetent animals, get him!”
Theodore ran for all he was worth, through the once sparking laboratory and to the door where a pair of arms clad in elbow length New Scotland Yard regulation sleeves reached out and pulled him inside between a few ionizer blasts coming from a bit further back in the safe hold.
“Hey Theo, nice work.” Lestrade informed him “Deidre’s just gone through to the room Watson’s in, she’s still got the ionizer, I’d run if I were you, we don’t have all day.”
“But what abou-”
“We’re all coming, Tennyson’s with Deidre, Wiggins’s got Bamfield, Powell’s gone ahead too, Hargreaves and me are gunna stay here for a bit longer, hold down the fort, he’s got Holmes.
Theodore looked down to see 2103 Holmes unconscious in the corner of the doorway, Hargreaves was leaning over him
“Is he going to be alright?” Theodore asked.
The scientist didn’t look up.
Lestrade had closed the door tightly and was barricading it against more ionizer shots with her shoulder “ya, he’s better now, I had to put him out with the weakest setting on this thing.” She held up another ionizer.
Obviously it had been she who had taken the liberty of putting some of the guards to sleep; “It was too much for him, and all that moving around just made it worse, but hey Theo, you better get going.”
“But 1800 Holmes is still out there, we need to get him!”
Theodore was now getting really worried, what if they had shot down the platform? What if the detective was unable to get to them through all Moriarty’s cronies in his weakened state?
“Don’t worry; I don’t think we’ll have to.”
“What do you mean?” Theodore was in no mood for games
“I mean he’s coming right now so you’d better get out of the way.”
Theodore glanced out the window into the lab and a large grin spread across his face, he turned and sprinted down the hall. Turning his gaze away from the hallway stretched out before him for only a moment to see 1800 Holmes, looking, if possible, even damper then Theodore, grab the ionizer out of Lestrade’s hand before she could object, and seal the door shut upon the inner side, sparing a few extra blasts to melt the hinges.
God, Theodore shook his head he never stops does he?
After what seemed like forever, he finally reached the door that led to the first section of rooms in the hallway, he reached his hand out to turn the knob at which point it was flung open and Theodore was pulled inside by a smiling Deidre.
“Theodore! We were all worried sick for ya’, you alrigh’? She enquired with concern.
“Ya” he smiled back “I’m fine, 1800 Holmes is too, what about you guys? Everyone okay?”
“Ya” Wiggins smiled tiredly; Tennyson beeped “He says he’s almost done.”
Theodore looked up to see Tennyson rooting around in the open panel on the back of Watson’s neck, a few sparks were sizzling but other then that he only seemed to be reconnecting wires.
He felt a tug at his sleeve, Deidre was pointing to a space on the floor by the wall, Greg was lying there, still unconscious.
Theodore walked over to him slowly, Powell was next to him, leaning against the wall, he didn’t say anything but Theodore could see how sorry he was.
Not that this improved his opinion of the Doctor, in fact Theodore had never thought less of anyone in his life, even after creating the problem the guy didn’t have the guts to try to fix it, and it was only because of the potential guilt of leaving him behind that anyone bothered to try to save him at all.
And perhaps there was a small amount of hope on Lestrade’s side that he would live to see Prison…
Ignoring Powell, Theodore sat down next to his fellow Canadian and took his hand, “it’s going to be okay, Greg.”
He felt a tap on his shoulder.
Suddenly another and entirely welcome voice joined the chorus of whispers in the room.
“I say, what happened?”
Theodore, Deidre, Wiggins and Tennyson immediately jumped into a large explanation and briefing about the events which had occurred and the ones to come which included their friend.
Watson paled when he heard the news about Holmes, both past and present.
“I am afraid that my communicator was destroyed.” He informed then gravely, holding up his arm where hey could see a few pieces of charred and twisted metal melted into place.
“Tha’s alrigh’ Watson.” Deidre assured him, patting him on the back. “We knew i’ would be, but don’ worry, that’s the beauty of our plan, if it works, it won’ matter.”
“Wait a moment,” Theodore asked suddenly “How did you take Silver’s ionizer without him noticing, it was right on his belt.”
She grinned “I took his spare, ‘e ‘ad two on ‘im.”
Theodore shook his head in awe.
Watson nodded, “It would seem that we have very little time, please direct me to the ventilation system.”
A moment of silence followed this brave encouragement as the compudroid pulled himself to his feet, taking stock of the condition of the intern in the corner and scanning everyone else.
“You ready guys?” Deidre asked suddenly, waiting for him to finish.
No one said anything.
No one needed to.
