"House"? You must mean Hugh Laurie. I wouldn't agree, but I've seen him in "Jeeves & Wooster" and "Blackadder" so I know better. He's to fish mouthed in appearance.
I know it sounds silly but think Holmes should look smart and talk like Holmes without too much trouble.
Have you seen "Doctor Who"? Ever seen "The Empty Child" and the "Doctor Dances"? They are my favorite and turns out to be award winning episodes. He maybe more comedy but as long as he's true to the character he can be a little light hearted once and a while.
