Thank you, Joyce. We are renting a house right now and will keep those things in mind should we decide to buy in the future. We are in the area behind the B&J's carryout place. I am wondering about snakes and other critters as I have not lived anywhere quite this rural before.
: Just to clarify, most tornadoes are not
: serious with a direct hit. There was one in
: LaPlata which devastated the city a few
: years ago, but that is not usual. Keep dead
: trees and vicarious tree limbs trimmed and
: away from your house.
:
: Hurricanes are also not usually direct hits.
: We get the tail end of hurricanes in ~Sept.
: Besides a lot of rain & downed tree
: limbs (as with tornadoes), we can have a
: power outage. (Power outages can happen
: during heavy icy snows, too, beside when a/c
: is over-used & bad weather like
: tornadoes.) If you use well water with an
: electric pump, a power outage will mean no
: water besides no electricity. You can keep
: back-up water or buy a generator. We seldom
: do things like put ply wood over our windows
: to prepare for storms.
:
: If you're near the river or your house is
: built on low land with poor drainage,
: flooding could also occur. Make sure you are
: covered for water damage due to flooding and
: that you have a fairly water proof basement.
:
: I hope this helps.
