Helen C. Phelan, a former historian of the Almond Historical Society and former teacher in Almond wrote a book on the Underground Railroad in Allegany County. Very informative. The book is out of print but can often be found online in used book store sites (including Barnes and Noble) or should be in libraries in Allegany County if you live in the area.
