Posted by Hiuare This skeleton review reflects a person who does not permanently live and tour East Are’Are in order to know the present status of various levels of developments in existence or possible to take place within the next 5 years. Therefore, this sketcy review welcomes genuine community based matters of concerns to all our people. Whatever, the terms and conditions of the kinds of developments we want to undertake, the primary role of this review is to identify and addess matters in relations to progress, pace and shortcomings of developments within East Are'Are. No doubts, individual readers from various villages will add or deduct from the list of what their village members do really want to achieve within the next 5 years. 2. Body a) Maniaha Cocoa project Maniaha voters requested the above assistance during Edward Hunuehu campaign in the last election. Paper work has been done. Edward Hunuehu continues to put this project into its development folders. When will Eddie, accomplish this? That is for Eddie and his new executive to iron out. In the mean time, I believe Maniaha community is looking forward to witness the success of this project. Accessing electricity supply to East Are'Are is one of the Eddie's open visions since his early days of joining politics. He started this with Manawai, Maroupaina and Nariaoa. Whether Masupa project is on the pipeline, I believe Eddie has made a clear undertaking during his campaign that this project must comes through. Masupa people are advised to work closely with him and his advisers. c) Namoaraha Council of Chiefs The key to open real and secured developments within East Are'Are is vested upon the above Council. Over the past years Namoaraha Council of Chiefs, have done its best to ensure that all customary lands within East Are'Are, are adjudicated according to customs and traditions. I met with the Council on 27/12/2005 at Maniaha village. The only problem that continues to cripple their work is lack of funds. They can only do work, if disputed parties put in funds to cater for their transportations, food etc. For instance, Kanata land dispute, my counsin brothers and I have to pay $4,500.00 for all the work that they have done. Should Edward and his team revise its stand on this issue for the next 5 years? Apart, the Council recently runs a customary land dispute training School. Should Eddie ensures that this school has some funds to meet its operation costs? Also, the chiefs need to build a permanent house for their Centre. This house represents their legal standing in East Are'Are. Should Eddie put priority to this? Despite the above 2 villages continue to enjoy electricity supply and watching movies etc, closer to town’s life, the issue of diversifying this power supply into real or secured developments is yet to be seen. Am not aware whether the available power supply is capable to meet other small scale developments. That is a matter which Eddie and his team have to address. e) Masupa and Raeao secondary schools Expanding these two schools in size and shape is another step in which Executives of the above schools have raised. This will require equipping the schools with proper facilities, teachers, housings and other basic needs. Despite aid donors have attended to these issues, Eddie should take more tight and progressive approach towards these issues. f) Hautahe water supply and saw milling project During Eddie's term, Hautahe village had raised its concern about its deteriorating water supply. Eddie must continue to put this in his top development list. Apart, a portable saw mill was purchased for the village. It is upon the village members’ to decide whether to mill timbers for Hautahe Community or commercial uses. g) Potaniu water supply This community needs water supply and setting up a clinic. Should the village representatives follow up this project with Eddie? h) Oloburi secondary school Provincial Member, Brain Tabaa had mentioned this project during his campaign. He continues to press for it. Should Eddie, Brian and village members work out its interim progress? i) Masupa Air field The above project was proposed. However, its progress was delaying due to non-cooperation of landowners within Masupa and surrounding villages. Despite that the need to have access to air transport in our constituency cannot be prolonged. Should all parties’ concern work harmoniously with interested donors to ensure that this project goes beyond paper work. j) Tarapaina Conversion of customary land Tarapaina leased customary land to the Parish has expired. All the rights and duties of the Church under this lease extinguished. The concern is that without proper notice to landowners, few members within and surrounding Tarapaina had invited officers of Honiara Ministry of Land and Survey Department to survey the land and allocate a parcel thereof. After this, this parcel be registered and converted into perpetual. Whether our landowners fully aware of the effects of this tenure conversion that is a matter which landowners should inform Eddie thereof. k) Rara medical assistance Rara village needs a boat to transport whoever gets sick to nearby clinics and hospitals. Should Eddie and his team look into this? l) Honoa & Rioaoa housing project Honoa and Rioao had entered into some kind of relationship with HABITAT Honiara. Whether the deal was in writing or oral, people at Honoa had done their part. They sent few cubic of mill timbers to Honiara and in return HABITAT to send iron roofing for 50 houses. Whether that is the deal, those are the information which I have gathered when I visited Honoa village during the New Year. Despite this project was initiated by individual member, it is for the common good of the community. Therefore, should Eddie and his team look into this saga. Kanata church building is on the pipeline. The Executive community had authorized me to sign leasing arrangements with local ship owners last year so that we could charter boats. We have done that and we do have the money to start building the church. In the mean time, despite our Engineer designed the church, the problem is we don't have the space. Kanata is a stonny place and we request if Eddie to help us with hiring of bulldozer to doze the area for the church. n)Masupa police post People’s respect to law and order at all times within East Are'Are, warrants a set up of police post at Masupa. Whether Eddie is aware of this need, East Are'Are must ensure that rural policing is paramount to our people’s safety and security. o) Tawanaora medical assistance Setting up of clinic at Tawanaora or improving its neaby clinic is paramount. This will help the villagers to have access to medical assistance. Should former member Warakohia follow up this request with Eddie? p) Highlander-water supplies, and cocoa projects Inaccessibility to safe drinking water and sources of income generating to highlanders continue to question their overall participations of developments within East Are'Are. More than 7 head family members and chiefs visited me during the Christmas holiday. They have raised their common concerns. I have advised them that their concerns are partially commitments of the State. Therefore, the proper channel is to address them through our new member after the election. Should Eddie and advisers continue to take care of our highlander’s requests? q) Su'u church building Su'u church is almost complete. However, they need some funds for its full completion. Should Eddie discuss this matter with its Church leaders? The above concerns are limited to community based developments based on information and documents that I have. I did not go down to individuals or entities concerns. Perhaps, those who reside in Honiara will enlarge the above list subject to CDF criterias and strict criterias of possible aid donors. In any case, East Are'Are visions to achieve ongoing and further developments for the next 5 years lie primarily with Eddie and his advisers with the total support of possible external aid donors.
