1. As Ex Officio of Maasina Fiji Students Association, I wish to update its status to all forum readers
2. The association is yet to adopt its new constitution but continuous deliberations and comprehensives views have been codified into its present form
3. We intend to apply for registration of trustee to this constitution under the charitable Trust Act of Fiji. However, our inability is that we do not have the legal standing to go as far as that.
4. Therefore, the association will make formal request to Solomon Islands Government as sponsor of most of the students to become trustee to this association.
5. Once 4 is fulfilled we will also request for SIG to provide an office for the association here in Suva.
6. Thereafter, no doubt the association has the resources and legal ability to deal with both internal and external authorities with matters affecting students welfare in Fiji.
7. On records, the fact that Solomon Islands Government does not have any state's authority in Fiji, public and private sectors within Fiji have the liberty to charge exorbitant rents, bonds, bank fees, water, electricity and others on our students. No doubt, its the tax payers that have to bear those unaccountable bills.
8. Since there is no fact finding action report done on this matter, no doubt, SIG and its agents do not have any immediate policy to look at students grievances from this end. Hence, the association has commitment to raise the same with SIG
9. Inaction on the part of the government on this matter would not reflect a responsible government.
10. The association humbly request for supports from southern region and those in authorities to collectively raise the same with SIG.
