Posted by John Naitoro The intervention force has began its process of intervention into the Solomon Islands as of this week. The question now is not as to whether they should intervene or not but rather the 'unravelling of intervention'. I think members of the forum should be now observant, constructively critical, give credit where it is due and act promply where intervention eschewed in its actions away from the purposes of its mission. The diversity of the Solomon Islands people implies that they would also have diverse response to the current intervention. But if one reads from the current media outlets both locally in Solomon Islands and overseas in Australia, the impression is that the intervention is a security necessity for Australia and widely supported in Solomon Islands. The current media outlets has so far not establish any facts about the immanent threat of the conditions in Solomon Islands to National security of Australian nor have they established the facts warrandering the scale of the military component of the intervention. What the media has so far passed on to the public in Australia and Solomon Islands are the ideological presumptions of terrorist threat pronounced both implcitly and explicitly in the Australian Strategic Policy Institute Report or the ASPI report for intervention in Solomon Islands. What is contained in the ASPI report for intervention in Solomon Islands did not justify sufficiently and factually that the current intervention serves the security interests of Australia by way of any immanent threat posed by the conditions in Solomon Islands. The question then is whether the current intervention is motivated by motives other than Australian National security. Is the motive humanitarian or moral or is it simply ideological? As the intervention unravels these issues will become clearer whether for good or bad. However, if it turns out to be negative, then the Solomon Islands leadership should take responsibility for not engaging any coprehensive debate on the implications of this historical events. Will continue...............
