Posted by Hoa'au Namonipapa'apu The variety of great ideas discussed so far attests to the great mental wealth of For instance, how about having a conference for Arekans to present, interrogate, question and discuss their ideas about development, land, law, women, health, children, education, politics, history and so on? The papers ccould be published too. This conference could be an important avenue where our thinkers, leaders and general populace take control of an important resource (mind) to harness for society's good. It is currently argued that the most important resource for countries now if they are to charter safely these" times" is 'knowledge.' But I contest that to be so simplistic for our context. I think reconciling what is been "thought-created" in airconditioned rooms and institutions with what is really daily-happening in our villages and communities stands paramount and specific to our situation and context if Are Are is to benefit from it's custodians of mental wealth. We Are Are thinkers must venture now into an "Aitatarau renegotiation" stage. A stage where what we think must be juxtapose along what our people live. For in institutions we educated Arekans think and write but in villages our people live. I recalled an encounter my father (Festus Anohere) had with Nono'ohimae and Nori (Ma'asina heros) along the bank of Wairaha river in the 1950s and whcih he related to me. The former noted to him that education is not for getting a job but to use your acquired know-how and know-what to better your Are Are communities. The collective mental pool of ideas educated Arekans acquire must be collectively renegotiated with the mental pool of ideas, advices and questions our village mentors and people have. The banks of a river can only be joined by a bridge and we educated Arekans hold only fifty percent of the materials for the bridge. Our communities equally holds the other fifty percent. However, the onus is on Are Are thinkers to must make the first move! How, when and what are really the specifics of this move I dont know but I am counting on the Areka contributors and idea-creators to contribute. These are just some of our ni'iraeha's and I hold copyright over any errors! I can be contacted via e-mail: S89076760@student.usp.ac.fj Erete rika'a Hoa'au

Dear All
some of our human resources. And I have found this website a wealth of immeasurable resource. However, I pose here two questions; do we now need to move beyond the "keyboard"? Do our thinkers need now to give "human face" and community-benefit-ownership to their ideas?
