The right of a person charged with a criminal offence to defend himself before the Court in person or, at his own expense, by a legal representative of his own choice is entrenched in the Constitution of Solomon Islands. Mr Rasta has engaged a barrister from Australia to represent him in Court and there is little Mr Suri or anyone can do about it.
Solomon Islands have very experienced lawyers and JAK has mentioned two of them. But it all comes dowm to choice and Rasta had made his choice. I am not sure whether the RAMSI is providing any financial assistance for the Counsel to come to Honiara, but I doubt it very much. It is the RAMSI that arrested Mr Rasta and obviously it cannot be the one be footing the bill.
