Posted by John Naitoro Today is the Xmas eve and greetings to all forum participants. This forum has served some of its purposes this year. Members have contributed their views on numerous issues affecting Are'Are community and as well as the Solomon Islands community at large. The major issues of governance and social development in Are'Are are long term issues and like the case of the Solomon Islands, these issues need to be addressed correctly and effectively if better results are to be expected. In the case of the Are'Are community, despite a lot of concern about issues of development and social progress, little of that nature have occurred in Are'Are itself. Apart from one or two social projects in East Are'Are and the Housing project in West Are'Are, a lot more needs to be done. For Are'Are forum members, there is an Are'Are community governance meeting scheduled for 22-26 March 2004 at "Lesser Peace" Village, Waisisi, West Are'Are, Malaita Province. The meeting has been the desire of many Are'Are men and women who saw the need for an active engagement in issues affecting Are'Are community today. Arekas like Alice Aruheeta Pollard, Johnson Aira'u, Sir David Kausimae, Edward Roni, our politicians and many others are behind the move for this meeting and arrangement is under way to ensure some additional fundings are obtained to facilitate this significant meeting for Are'Are people. If some of you are in Are'Are or for that matter in the Solomon Islands, please make yourself available as it would also be a good learning experience and an informative meeting. More on this will be posted for your infor. but in the mean time, the Are'Are Community Government Constitution is a major agenda for this meeting. Apart from the above coming events, I hope all forum members and participants in the forum wish you all have a good Xmas. erete, Dr.John Naitoro

Hana amu hi Arekas and friends,
Outside Are'Are Community, there is also another important development for the Are'Are Community. Recently, a Malaita Maasina Forum(MMF) constitution have been developed from members of the Malaita Community. The Malaita Maasina Forum is now in the process of formalising as it prepares to promote Malaitan engagement in the problem of Malaita development. Malaita Maasina Forum Members comes from all the major language groups on the Island of Malaita. The MMF has pledged to support the Malaita province in promoting solidarity of Malaitans for keeping law and order in Malaita and but also in engaging in the processes of facilitating land for development on the Island. MMF holds meeting weekly in Honiara for those that never goes to Malaita and you are welcome to attend. There is going to be a Malaitan public forum soon both in Honiara and Malaita and the idea is simply to promote unity in development.
