And build a fire? Or maybe have enough canvas for a lean-to? Sling a hammock where he could and strew coals at a comfy distance to keep his backside warm? Where would you (that being plural) Well, I'd look in journals, diaries, general Western life books, or daily life of a Civil War and/or Cavalry soldier, or other applicable subject areas. I know that in the Civil War, it was often done that you "spooned up" with your buddy or buddies. Because of the lack of supplies endemic in the Southron forces, I have read that it was customary amongst some infantry units to "buddy" up, and put one oil cloth/blanket on the ground, and put the other over the two men who "spooned" together for body heat. Please understand that this kind of sleeping arrangement in the Old West between same gender people was common, and had NO sexual intent. Sleeping with someone did NOT have the same meaning that it has today. (Certainly people had sex and then slept together, but that was called something else, depending on the circumstances of the couple. My favorite is "horizontal refreshment".) Eleanor
