Posted by Eleanor This is a shameless beg -- and I'm sure you'll understand why. One of the things that writing Mongoose -- and I thank you again for your tremendous patience -- has brought me, is a wonderful, wonderful friend named Beau. Beau is a "Walkaloosa", or a cross between a Tennessee Walking Horse and an Apaloosa, recreating a horse that a cowboy would pay $50.00 for -- when a good cutting horse cost $2.00. My Beau is a rescue. When I got him, he looked like a starved deer with a horses head stuck on top, and was a pretty mean customer. Just shy of six months -- and 400 more pounds later -- he is an elegant gentleman, the leader of our little herd, and a true delight. He will sleep with his head in my lap, and has the "Indian shuffle", or the Tenessee Walker gait. My roommate laughs a lot, telling me to be careful what I write -- Beau is a Chaucer if there ever was one! Which leaves me to my shameless beg. The equine rescues of the United States are facing a terrible emergency situation. Nearly 1,000 wild horses must be adopted by these certified rescues or they will be sold off to the butcher -- and the rescues have _10_ days to come and get them, an impossible task even if these non-profit, volunteer groups has limitless resources. Please go to www.habitatforhorses.org, or email me at Tremayne@m7bedlam.com to find out more, and then spread the word. (Please rememebr to respect the posting rules for any list you're on.) Remember, take away the horses, and the Old West isn't any more. Thanks! Link: Habitat For Horses Equine Rescue
