Posted by M.C. on September 2, 2001, 1:01 pm Okay, your turn to be the teachers and mine the learner. Prove it to me. Find me information from reputable vets, behaviorists or trainers, or from studies that justify this theory. I just know he/she does, won't do it. Is that reality or is it the caretaker tranferring his/her own guilt onto the dog as I now believe? i.e. I feel guilty because I went out, so therefore the dog must pee on the carpet to get back at me. I believe such behaviors stem from physical causes, boredom, improper training techniques/supervision or lack of training altogether, improper reinforcement or in extreme cases, anxiety. I honestly don't believe at this point that dog's spend the whole day sitting around plotting how to make Mom pay for the sin of going out to dinner with Dad. In fact, after the first 10 minutes after leaving...I don't think they think much about it at all. *grinning* But I will stay open minded as long as the proof is good. Should be a fun learning experience. Show me.
I keep hearing over and over again...my dog did so and so just to get back at me.
