Posted by Karen on September 4, 2001, 8:44 pm Older dog, medical issue (it may be uncomfortable and this can make good dogs cranky), dog was being put through somethign he did not like and that is umpleasant and the vet sounds like a moron when it comes to dog behavior. To save peace of mind, have the dog evaluated by a behaviorist. But I see an odler dog who may be going a tad senile, keep the kids quiet around him and insist they never sneak up on him. (My ancient and honorable and sadly missed girl was going deaf, she was sound asleep, my husband touched her, she startled as she did not hear him or feel vibrations (concrete floor) and she nailed him. But it was his fault as he knew to gradually wake her. I do not really see anything else but an old dog with old dog issues, possibly some deafness, maybe lessened vision, he may be hurting with the eye and just not feel like being Mr Snuggly face. Attitudes change with older dogs. I would have a thorough physical done, bloods, etc., this may be age related. As for the going out, my six year old refused and stands ground if it could be remotely raining out (this includes just overcast). We often have to drag him outside now. I opt for aging... Get bloods done, joints checked, call a behaviorist to ease your mind... But it sounds like old age and related things to it.
I see a few things going on here -
