Posted by Diane on September 15, 2001, 5:03 pm ASPCA ISSUES PLEA TO TRI-STATE AREA RESIDENTS: PLEASE REMEMEBER THE PETS OF THOSE WHO ARE MISSING If anyone knows of such a pet, please call the ASPCA at (212) 876-7700 ext. 4550 A network of foster care volunteers are standing by to take pets into their homes until permanent homes can be found. So it would seem that donations or offers of foster homes where possible would be a great way to help out. Please also check out the emergency advice for pet owners - invaluable information for everyone there! I also heard on the news this morning that the searchers still have hope to find survivors under the towers in what was the underground part of the buildings and are, at this point, in need of flashlights and batteries for them and also something to do with the masks they wear which apparently only last a day or so.... but I'm not sure of what it is exactly that they need, I missed the actual term - anyone else know?
I was just reading about the efforts your ASPCA are making on behalf of pets who have been left stranded, alone in apartments, due to the crisis in New York. They are doing a WONDERFUL job and I'd like to offer a word of praise. To read about there efforts go here ASPCA and check out the articles in the box which all directly relate to animals in need in NY. They are also making listings of where animals are in the evacuated apartment buildings so that they can go straight to them as they are allowed in so it may be a good idea to pass the information and contact details on where you can. Here's a copy of that article if you would like to copy and paste it..
(New York, NY) September 15, 2001 -- The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is asking residents in the tri-state area to remember the companion animals of those who are missing in this most unfortunate tragedy. The ASPCA has set up a hotline for people to call to report pets whose owners are missing.
