Posted by Karen on July 12, 2002, 7:42 am I am all for animal welfare but when some of these extremist rights groups get working, their ultimate agenda can be scary and end up hurting a lot. I am very apprehensive about the guardianship thing as I think there is an underlying agenda that will hurt all animals owners eventually if it passes... Here is the URL for the AKC page on this. http://www.akc.org/love/dip/legislat/Guardian0702.cfm And this is an email posted on the UKC board regarding this. http://ukcdogs.com/mb/posts/5500.html If it gets through in Los Angeles then where next and what will the ultimate price be? Will showing and competing and hunting be considered cruelty? What if the dog loves to work and are breeds that NEED to work? Wouldn't keeping them as sedentary pets be more cruel? Either way the owner is not being a good guardian! Will housing dogs in kennels, even if huge, airconditioned, heated, etc be considered against the law? Will boarding kennels or larger breeders and groomers be affected? What about the use of dogs to assist the disabled? I do think this is another ploy for animal rights extremists to get their foot in the door to ultimately end pet ownership as we know it. Los Angeles is considering changing the word ownership of animals to Guardian and there are many concerns being raised about the legal ramifications of this. The bill sounds good but
The underlying theme of the guardian thing is to eventually make it so we cannot enjoy our pets nor can we use dogs for assistance work, competition, hunting, showing, etc. The animal rights groups are getting sneaky and using language that makes things sound great but their underlying agenda is out to stop us all from owning pets or competing in various sports with our dogs...
