Posted by M.C. on November 28, 2002, 11:48 pm Many smaller animals such as hamsters get respitory problems with cedar chips, but I've never heard a dog suffering from the same, especially in a closed bed. But this could be where your breeder has concerns...especially with a short muzzled breed. In fact, many health experts recommend these types of beds as a natural flea and pest repellent. This is pretty much all I know. Good luck with your decision.

or any breed are usually not allergic to the cedar itself, but rather the mold that can gather in the bedding over time. This can be avoided by changing out the chips periodically. How often will depend on your climate. If you are really humid, you may want to do it every few months. If you are more arid and drier in climate, you may be able to go a few years.
