But they do have good instincts for the most part, play taps, mostly went unnoticed.

hey, i had a boxer/pitt mix growing up, no need to train it protection, as others have mentioned here. It comes natural to them, both in pitts and boxers. Beware of trying to "police" train them, this will make them into a trained loose cannon. And in most places, 1 bite and they're put down, regardless of reason.
Also, Pitts don't need any additional help in getting a bad reputation. I have purebred apbt now, Loving as can be, that's the image people need to rebuild of this breed, they get blamed by so many for things other mixes have done.
Watch out for aggressiveness though, make sure she knows it wont' be tolerated.
