In my opinion the effect of Cael at PSU - will by itself not make that much difference - because they already enjoyed a significant recruiting advantage in PA. However, Sanderson will also be able to pull top kids from west and mid west to PSU - creating a national talent pool for him to draw from. Having said that I personally don't see him getting more NJ kids at PSU then he got at Iowa.
It is worth noting that recruiting is only one part of the equation - you have to train in a way that has everybody peak at the right time. Other then Jake Varner I am not sure ISU had everybody peaking at Nationals - in fact it seemed they underperformed to some degree.
To be a successful program you depend on assistants who work to keep everyone eligible and mentally tough. I think the jury is out on whether Cael can translate the kind of mental and physical toughness he brought to the mat to his wrestlers.
Only one Eastern school has ever won nationals - and that was PSU over 50 years ago. It will be interesting to see who can do it next - PSU, Lehigh, Maryland, Rutgers, Cornel, Ohio, V tech each has the coach, the regional recruiting clout and (we presume) the admissions support to get it done - it will be interesting to see who actually does it.
