Jack CuvoPalmer Township police are searching for a former wrestling superstar after he left a note at his home saying he might harm himself, township police said.
Jack Cuvo of the 2100 block of Edgewood Avenue has not been seen or heard from since Wednesday evening, police said. But Cuvo's sister, Bobbi-Jo Powell, said Thursday afternoon her sister received a text message from Cuvo.
Powell said she does not know where her brother went.
"We've checked with a lot of his friends and other places," Powell said. "He wasn't there."
Police say Cuvo is distressed over family issues. Cuvo's note was found about noon at his home.
Shortly after the discovery Cuvo's family notified police, township police Chief Bruce Fretz said.
An alert went out to police department in the region asking them to keep an eye out for Cuvo, who was last seen driving a maroon 1999 Chevrolet Suburban and headed toward Wilson Borough. His license plate reads EASTON-1, police said.
Cuvo is a former wrestling superstar at Easton Area High School and East Stroudsburg University.
He compiled a 139-2 career record at Easton and is a three-time state champion who went on to become a two-time national champion at ESU.
In 2005, Cuvo was awarded a $2.5 million settlement from Easton in a police brutality lawsuit in which Cuvo claimed he was beaten by officers. Cuvo claimed the struggle happened after a 14-block low-speed chase that began with Cuvo videotaping police in Centre Square.
Cuvo also filed a civil rights lawsuit against Palmer Township police in 2001, claiming police lacked probable cause to arrest Cuvo for drunken driving following a single-vehicle crash. That suit was later dismissed by a federal judge.
