He did not win his district. He also did not qualify for the state tournament (which means no top 4 region finish). I have never seen someone who did not qualify for the state tournament in one year, get a top five rank the next year. Plus I saw him twice last year and he was less then impressive. He had one point wins over kids who were not of the better wrestlers in his area. As far as the freshmen nationals go.....there were a limited number of kids and participation there, besides as Max has said: the summer means nothing, show it to me on the mat. I have heard way too many stories of kids becoming allworld in the summer, and doing nothing during the season. This is not about his age or bashing anyone, it is just objectively discussing the rankings.
