Posted by Chad Bester Along with their status as the Official Opposition, Alliance MP's receive all sorts of perks paid for, not by their "grassroots", but by all Canadian taxpayers. Who do you think foots the bill for Day's fancy digs, Stornoway? They're supposed to earn these perks by leading the opposition to the government. If our current Opposition performed this well in the private sector, how long do you think they'd hold on to their jobs before they were sacked en masse? If you did your job as poorly as they do theirs you would be on Employment Insurance. These guys like to rant about government boondoggles but maybe they ought to look in the mirror. Forget the pension fiasco, these MPs ought to be handing their pay cheques back to the treasury. Is anyone else tired of all the endless whining about "grassroots"? What Day and both camps in his bizarre party seem to forget is that the grassroots that really matter are the silent majority of Canadians, independent of the Alliance or any other party, who regularly troop to the polls to elect or defeat the government. We decide who governs, not these guys, and, according to all the recent polls, right about now Canada's real grassroots would be happy to bid Bon Voyage to Day, the Alliance party, and all those vexing Alliance grassroots. Maybe its time to mow the grass. Ever notice how Dimwell always has someone to blame for every misfortune that falls on his head? Why, barely half a year ago, he was blaming that artful dodger, Jean Chretien, for sandbagging him with a snap election call that prevented the Alliance from making a great breakthrough east of Manitoba. Think about that one for a minute. If you were Jean Chretien, what would you give to be able to take it all back and, instead, call that election today? Chretien unintentionally did Day and the Alliance a huge favour by calling the election before we had time to get a real good, close up look at this guy. If Chretien hadn't flinched, there wouldn't have been any question about waiting until next April. The Canadian voters would have done what the Alliance leaders can't muster up the guts to do.
