But I would never recommend allowing any cats roam free - if you decide to let your Burmese roam free, it will be just a matter of time when will the kitten get killed on the road or stolen or other accidents can happen. I have seen that happening too many times...a safe outdoor area is good though. Good luck,

I bred Burmese for 10 years and I am owed by four Burmese pets at the moment. They are wounderful pets, but they ARE demanding cats and I would not recommend them as ideal companions for Birman cats. Simply because of the difference in their activity level. I had a Birman for 3 years and sold few kittens in pairs - Burmese and Birman kittens. In not a single case worked the combination. After about 12 months the owners came back for an other Burmese, because the existing one was too bored and frustrated consequently. It might work if you pair a quiet Burmese with a BIrman, I do not know. From what I have heard and from my experience it is a risky job. You might even decide to adopt an older Burmese and that way you will be able to choose the temperament that would compliment your Birman's.
