I forgot to mention, try getting the kitten to come to you. A feather on a piece of wool is a great tool. Dangle the feather in front of it and allow her to play with it. Slowly pull the string, you might need to do it a few times and at different speeds until you discover what works for her. Just get her use to coming close to you at first before you try to pat her.
