Depending on the breed ..you don't wanna know..you have at least 6 months maybe 12 or even more ...cats are perverse creatures ..they sleep often and revitalize... They sleep 18 to 20 hours and are flat out the rest of the time ...isn't that fun??? You need to be firm if you don't want him in your room ..maybe allocate a small room for his bedroom ..with his toys ,bed and litter food etc...he will soon learn that bedtime is lights out and sleep..BUT you must stay firm if you want to teach him .ONE soft moment means you have to start ALL over again .
