When Cambridge was $2,000,000 in the red a couple of years ago, East Guernsey was not far behind at $1,000,000 to $1,500,000 in debt. As of the 07-08 school year, East Guernsey had a balance of $900,000+ in the black. Next year East Guernsey may be calling back some teachers who were let go do to financial shortages suffered by all local didtricts. Something must be done in the Cambridge City School District to bring back the trust of the citizens of the district. What needs to be done cannot be done just by a small group of boosters. It will take the voters to get done what needs to be done. I, as well as others who vote, see division at many levels. People will not back a district which is being led, or dragged, down the wrong path. I'm not placing blame at any level, but people need to step up or our facilities will cointinue to crumble. Regarding Goody's plans, I hope he stays. He and his staff have done a great job of selling their program to the Bobcat football players. The man probably just wants something feasible to be used for his program. It's not a crime for Goody to want for his players what most others have, regardless of the success his program has experienced. I've heard that some want to build some type of shrine-like complex that will take more time to raise the money to build. We need something ASAP. In the early 1990s in South Carolina, WE (coaches participated in the building to keep costs down) built a field house for $40,000. I know costs have risen and it couldn't be done for that price now, but I know it couldn't have doubled. Our field house contained two locker rooms w/ showers, a dressing room w/ showers for the officials, and some storage areas. It didn't have concession stands and public restrooms. If the football boosters are footing the bill for the field house w/o funds from the district, then the group recieving the concessions should pay to update those facilities. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money. If Goody chooses to go, then best wishes and thanks for your time and effort. He would be missed.

Regarding #4. One big difference is that the voters of the East Guernsey School District passed a levy to build an athletic complex for their students and community to use. Without it, Trail would not have the very nice facilities that they have.
All three East Guernsey schools (elementary, middle school and high school) were recently selected as Schools of Promise by the Ohio Department of Education. Of all elementary, middle and high schools in the state there were only 60-some schools given this designation and three were in the East Guernsey School District.
How do you justify to the voters, putting great amounts into extracurricular activities when you cannot retain teachers due to budget cuts. I don't care if the money is coming from a booster club or not. I know the situation with the facilities and agree that they need to be taken care of.
Restroom facilities should be the financial responsibility of the district. Our lack of facilities is also costing the athletic department potential earning from hosting state playoff games.
