The Cambridge bats came alive tonight as they recorded 11 hits and 14 runs in the third inning, sending 18 runners to the plate, in an 18 - 0 blow-out at Coshocton. Paige Young picked up her 4th win in as many starts, giving up just 2 hits and recording 4 strike outs in the 5-inning contest. Cambridge pitchers have given up just one run, unearned at that, in six starts.
Cambridge recorded their first run in the 1st as Sarah Starr reached on an error, stole second and was bunted to third. Lacie Mahley dropped an RBI single into left to score Starr.
After going quietly in the 2nd, Taryn Payton got things going with a single in the top of the third. After a very long fly ball out by Sarah Starr, the Cats put together a string of 10 hits, interspersed with a walk and three fielder's choice plays by Coshocton, none of which resulted in an out. Cambridge scored their final three runs in the 4th after Sarah Starr singled, Maggie Starr reached on a fielder's choice, and Janelle Givens launched a 3-run home run over the left field fence.
Offensively, Givens led the attack with 2 singles, a home run and 6 RBI's and Lacie Mahley had 2 singles, a double and 2 RBI's. Sarah Starr, Maggie Starr and Chanel Ford all added 2 singles with 2 RBI's, Taryn Payton had 2 singles and 1 RBI, and Megan Tharp added double that just missed going over the fence.
Cambridge hosts cross-county rival Meadowbrook on Wednesday at 5:00pm.
