The Lady Cats celebrated their 5th place ranking in today's Division II Coaches poll by picking up win number 12 with a 14-4 six-inning win over John Marshall. Paige Young moved to 10 - 0 on the season, giving up 5 hits, one hit batter, and recording 3 strikeouts.
Cambridge put two runs on the board in the first on a walk, hit batter, error, and fielder's choice. In the second, three straight singles and a double resulted in 3 more runs. The Cats added 3 more in the third on a single, sacrifice, walk and 2 singles. Two scored in the fourth on two singles and a double, a play that sent catcher Carly Kehn to the hospital when she jammed her ankle sliding into third base.
The Cats scored 3 runs in the fifth on two double, a triple and single. The final run to end the game early scored in the sixth on an error.
Offensively, the Cats were led by Janelle Givens with two doubles, a single and 3 RBI's, Sarah Starr had 2 singles and 3 RBI's, Carly Kehn had a single and double with 1 RBI, Chanel Ford had two singles with 2 RBI's, and Maggie Starr had 2 singles and 1 RBI. Taryn Payton added a single and RBI while Lacie Mahley doubled, Megan Tharp tripled, and Paige Young and Alexa Kafury singled.
Defensively, after Kehn left the game Kafury assumed the catcher's duties while Givens moved to third base, Ford entered the game in left and Payton moved to center.
The Cats will host Indian Valley tomorrow night at Diamond 4 at 5pm.
