A much improved Claymont team brought their A-game to Diamond 4 tonight and came out on top of the Cats by a 3-2 score. Paige Young took the loss, giving up 9 hits, striking out 4 and walking 2.
Cambridge had their first scoring opportunity in the second as Janelle Givens opened with a double and Megan Tharp reached on an error. The next three batters were unable to advance the runners further. The Cats got on the board in the 4th on a solo homer by Janelle Givens, her 7th of the year. In the 5th, Alexa Kafury singled and scored on a single by Sarah Starr. In the 6th, Lacie Mahley opened with a single, Tharp singled and Alexa Kafury reached on an error, but all three were left stranded. The final scoring opportunity came in the 7th as Taryn Payton singled and Sarah Starr walked but both were left on base.
Claymont scored all of their runs in the 5th inning as their lead-off batter reached on an error followed by 2 doubles, a fly out and another double.
Offensively for Cambridge, Janelle Givens had a homerun, double and RBI, Sarah Starr had a single and RBI, while Lacie Mahley, Megan Tharp, Alexa Kafury and Taryn Payton added singles.
Cambridge will host Coshocton tomorrow night with game time 5pm.
