The Lady Cats picked up another ECOL win tonight by way of 8-2 win over visiting River View. Paige Young gave up 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3 batters.
Cambridge scored their first runs in the 2nd as Janelle Givens led off with a walk, Alexa Kafury singled, Paige Young brought Givens home on an RBI ground-out and Taryn Payton scored Kafury on a fielder's choice.
The Lady Black Bears tallied one run in the 3rd on a single, fielder's choice and another single.
The Cats put 3 more runs on the board in their half of the 3rd as Sarah Starr was hit by a pitch, Lacie Mahley doubled to bring her in and Givens launched her 8th homer of the year over the center field fence.
In the 5th, River View put their second run on the board as the first batter struck out and second batter walked. The third batter teached on an error and the fourth batter singled to bring in one run. The next batter bunted with the bases loaded and catcher Carly Kehn alertly picked up the ball and stepped on home plate for the force. The River View players, thinking that there were 3 outs, began walking off of the field. Kehn fired the ball to Givens who had come in from center field to cover second and she tagged the runner who had strayed from the bag for an unorthodox double play to end the inning.
Cambridge added their final 3 runs in the 6th as Taryn Payton led off with a slap single, Kehn smacked her first homer over the left-center field fence, Starr reached on an error and came home on Mahley's double.
Offensive stats:
Lacie Mahley 2 doubles, 2 RBI's
Taryn Payton 2 singles
Janelle Givens homerun, 2 RBI's
Carly Kehn homerun, 2 RBI's
Maggie Starr single
Alexa Kafury single
Cambridge will travel to Dover Friday night for their first meeting of the year. Start time is 5:00pm.
