I heard the other day that Stanley Clifford died.
Stanley was a staple at the "Old Courts", he could spin 4 or 5 basketballs at one time and that was pretty cool.
It was easy to make fun of Stanley back in the day, he was different, and anyone different was easy prey. It's obvious now looking back, how insecure we were and that if we struck first maybe no one would make fun of us.
Stanley certainly never hurt anyone, he didn't bother anyone, he just wanted to be one of the gang as he walked around with a pocket full of pennies and nickels in his pocket. To be real honest, the whole Clifford clan was a pretty good group of kids.
I've long since made my peace with Stanley and many of the school mates that I felt the urge to pick on and make fun of, (although I don't remember any one of the guys who used to pick on me and the Mayor telling us they were sorry, but then again half of them are in jail), but I would encourage everyone to take the high road and try to put yourself in someone's shoes that you maybe have picked on and belittled in the past and realize that we're all in the same boat in the Sea of Life. RIP Stanley
