The Lady Cats picked up a revenge win over Dover tonight by a 4-3 score and celebrated Senior Night along the way. Paige Young gave up 8 hits, walked one and hit two batters.
Dover got on the board early with 3 straight hits in the first inning to score 2 runs. Cambridge answered in the bottom of the first as Sarah Starr singled, moved to second on a throwing error and third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch. Janelle Givens was hit by a pitch on the right elbow and Megan Tharp sent a homer over the center field fence to take the lead at 3-2.
Dover had baserunners in the second, third and fourth but were unable to score. Cambridge had runners in the third and fifth that were also stranded.
In the top of the sixth, Dover led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by a pinch hitter for the lead-off batter. Cambridge came right back in the bottom of the sixth as Givens singled and went to second as the ball rolled between the outfielder's legs. Tharp hit a grounder to short but the throw to first sailed over the first baseman's head, allowing Givens to score the eventual wining run.
For Cambridge, Starr and Givens singled and Tharp homered for the only hits of the night.
Cambridge moves their record to 22-4 (9-3 ECOL)and finishes their league play tomorrow night at Indian Valley.
