With top dogs New Philadelphia (at River View) and Dover (hosting Claymont) playing the lower echelon of the ECOL, the Bobcats at Coshocton is easily the ECOL game of the week. Coshocton is looking for their third straight victory over the visiting Bobcats.
The 'Cats come in at 3-2, 1-0 in the league and Coshocton enters the contest at 4-1, 1-1 in the League. The loser of this game can just about forget about any chances of winning the ECOL this season. Coshocton is alive and well in the hunt for a playoff bid as the come in to the game at #5 in D-IV, Region 15 while the 'Cats (15th in D-III, Region 11) will have to at least 2 games from Coshocton, Dover and New Philadelphia without losing to Meadowbrook and River View to have any shot at the playoffs.
Players to Watch:
Coshocton has an oustanding running attack with Marcus Johnston (6'1", 210 lbs) and Dominique McCluskey (5'10", 185 lbs) carrying the ball.
Marcus Johnston's numbers:
Week 1, 73 yards on 8 carries (2 TDs)
Week 2, 158 yards on 15 carries (2 TDs)
Week 3, unavailable
Week 4, 164 yards on 21 carries (2 TDs)
Week 5, 135 yards on 13 carries (4 TDs)
The 'Cats counter with a stable of fine running backs of their own with senior Tyler Hardesty and sophomore DeShawn Lewis. Hardesty and Lewis were kept in check at Sheridan last week and will be looking to stretch their legs at Coshocton this week. Look for the 'Cats to find a way to get lightning quick Reece Lashley the ball on offense. Lashley brings a home run threat each time he touches the ball.
Intangibles:
Coshocton's offense has averaged 38.6 points per outing while the Redskin defense has allowed 17.6 per game.
The CHS offense is putting up an average of 26.4 points per game while the 'Cats defense is allowing 12.4 points per game.
Coshocton (4-1) has wins over opponents with a combined record of 8-12, and has beaten one team (Akron Manchester, 4-1) with a winning record. Coshocton's lone loss came at the hands of New Philadelphia (5-0).
The 'Cats (3-2) have yet to beat a squad with a winning record. Cambridge's wins came over opponents with a combined 3-11 record, with a pair of losses to teams with a combined record of 7-3.
I haven't seen the weather report but over the past several years it always seems to pour when we travel to Coshocton. Better take your rain gear.
