CAMBRIDGE -- Despite losing focus a little in the third set, the Cambridge Lady Bobcats rebounded to record a sweep of the visiting New Philadelphia Lady Quakers by scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-22 in East Central Ohio League play on Thursday.
The Lady ’Cats (13-2, 7-2 ECOL), after winning the first two sets fell behind by a 19-11 score in the third set but were able to right the ship to salvage the 25-22 victory and preserve the sweep.
“We lost a little focus in the third game and I was out of timeouts,” Cambridge coach Rod Johnson admitted, “but to the girls’ credit, they snapped out of it and turned on the after-burners. We got some key serving from Katie Caldwell and Jordan Miller during that stretch and got some good hitting from Vontisa Harvey, Paige Young and Katie Davis.”
In the serving category, Candice Bumgardner was a perfect 10-of-10 with two aces, Caldwell was 16-of-17 with a pair of aces and Miller went 17-of-18 with two aces and also handed out 14 assists. Rebecca Cline was 41-of-44 passing with 14 digs and also hammered nine kills.
Harvey led Cambridge at the net with 10 kills, while Brittany Berger added six. Young and Davis each had five stops and Davis also added five blocks. Maggie Starr recorded nine digs and setter Alysa Rice handed out 12 assists.
For the Lady Quakers (6-9, 1-7 ECOL), Laini Leindecker slammed 13 kills and added 11 digs. Courtney Macmillan and Maddie Shelly each scored eight points.
