UHRICHSVILLE Homestanding Claymont clinched the East Central Ohio League volleyball championship Tuesday night with a three set sweep of the visiting Cambridge Lady Bobcats by scores of 25-19, 27-25 and 25-17.
We have had trouble closing against real good teams, Cambridge coach Rod Johnson admitted, and Claymont is a real good team. Our seniors played well tonight.
Jordan Miller, Rebecca Cline and Maggie Starr led the Lady Bobcats in serving with Miller a perfect 11-of-11 with three aces, Cline was 14-of-15 and Starr was a perfect 8-of-8. Senior setter Alysa Rice dished out 16 assists, while in the passing department Cline was 25-of-26 with nine digs. Starr was 31-of-33 passing and led Cambridge with 14 digs.
At the net, Katie Davis slammed eight kills and 11 blocks and Cline added seven kills.
For the Lady Mustangs (19-1, 11-0 ECOL), Makenzie Ripley continued her torrid play at the net with 19 kills and also added 12 digs. Jordan Smith had 10 kills, 11 assists and two aces. Aleigh Bollon added nine digs.
NEXT Cambridge will host River View on Thursday for Senior Night, with JV action beginning at 5:30 p.m.
What we allow, we encourage.
