WARSAW —After playing a scoreless first half, the Cambridge Lady Bobcats suffered a 3-0 loss to River View on the road Thursday.
Danielle Sheetz opened the scoring, placing a goal in the net in the fifth minute of the second half. Keirsten Ashcraft struck next in the 20th minute of the second and Sheetz finished things off eight minutes later with her second goal.
The Lady Bears outshot Cambridge (4-10-2), 28-18. Paige Carpenetti stopped 22 shots for Cambridge while Katie Garrett had 12 stops for the hosts.
NEXT — Cambridge meets Edison on Saturday at 12:10 p.m. in the Division II Sectional at Steubenville.
The Cambridge High boys’ soccer team fell to visiting River View by a 6-1 count on Thursday.
The Black Bears struck first when Stephen Hammond scored in the 16th minute. Paul Hart followed with a goal in the 19th minute, and Blaine Cox ripped the nets five minutes later. Tyler Croft pushed the lead to 4-0 at the 38th minute, which was where it stood at the half.
River View scored again in the sixth minute of the second half with Hart scoring for the second time.
Cambridge’s Tim Fox broke up the shutout, scoring on a penalty kick in the 48th minute while River View’s Croft finished up scoring in the 75th minute.
Matt Drotovick had nine saves for Cambridge (4-10-2), with his teammates finishing with six shots-on-goal. Devyn Albertson recorded four stops with his the Bears taking 14 shots at the hosts’ net.
“We came out and didn’t start real well,” said Cambridge coach J.R. Fox. “We built and played a lot better in the second half and got some things organized and did some things better. We just need to tweak a few things here and there and we’ll be O.K.”
NEXT — Cambridge takes on St. Clairsville on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Steubenville Division II Sectional Tournament.
