CAMBRIDGE — It was history in the making Thursday as the Lady Bobcats beat East Central Ohio League opponent River View by 25-11, 25-16 and 25-18 scores.
The win marks the first time a Cambridge volleyball team has ever beaten River View.
Cambridge (17-3, 9-3 ECOL) utilized a balanced attack to cruise to victory and tie for second place in the league standings.
Maggie Starr led the Lady Bobcats in serving, going 18-for-18 (one ace) while picking up 18 digs. Jordan Miller was not far behind, tallying 17-of-17 serving (two aces) to go with 16 assists. Rebecca Cline notched a perfect 20-of-20 passing mark and recorded eight digs; Vontisa Harvey, Katie Davis and Lindsay Province all played tough at the net, registering nine, eight and seven kills, respectively; and Brittany Berger blocked five shots.
River View (15-7, 9-3 ECOL) was led by Olivia Nease with nine kills and Kayla Landaker with 10 assists.
Cambridge coach Rod Johnson was satisfied with his team’s effort in the groundbreaking win.
“It’s the first win in school history against River View, so we were pleased,” Johnson offered. “It was the best match of the season without question. Our five seniors stepped up on Senior Night and we played collectively in a total team effort. It was a balanced. We got significant contributions from everybody tonight.
“We really totally dominated and it was really nice to be able to beat them, but also to send a message that we are going to be a handful come tournament time,” added Johnson.
NEXT — Cambridge plays in the OVAC Class 4-A Tournament at Steubenville on Saturday, taking on East Liverpool in the semifinals at 6 p.m.
