Having suffered four straight losses to quality competition, Cambridge hopes to close out the season on a positive note and reach the breakeven
mark.
To do that, the Bobcats will have to snap the four-game skid in their last home game of the season against East Central Ohio League foe River View on Friday.
Coach Rick Goodrich knows his squad (3-5, 1-3 ECOL) has been through a meat-grinder in recent weeks.
“Look at the combined record of the teams we’ve played the last four weeks,” he related. “It was one good team after another. We can’t complain about that; we just have to go out and play and try to get better.”
Goodrich referred to the fact the Bobcats had faced Sheridan, Coshocton, Dover and New Philly in succession - teams with a combined 28-4 record and all in contention for OHSAA playoff spots.
River View (1-7, 0-4 ECOL) is coming off its first win of the season, a 39-36 shootout against Philo. That point total equalled the Black Bears’ output in their first seven games combined, which incuded four shutout losses.
“They’ve got a pretty good quarterback who throws it well,” said Goodrich. “They run a variation of the wing-T and you can get lost in the misdirection stuff so our secondary can’t fall asleep. We’ll try to put pressure on them and create mistakes.
“We can’t just show up and beat the next two teams because of their records,” Goodrich offered.
“We have to want to go out and play hard."
“Having a non-losing season has to be our goal now,” Goody continued, “and the kids need to make the most of what will be the last two weeks of football for most of the seniors.”
What we allow, we encourage.
