The loss of a beloved bird companion can be just as hard as losing a human friend or family member.
Sometimes birds are all the family that some people have had. There may have been a deep bond between human and bird and each truly loved and cherished each other. It is just as important to take care of yourself when a bird dies as when you lose a human family member - even more so because non bird owners might not understand your grief.
One way to take care of yourself is make a memorial. You can make a memorial here by lighting a candle, writing about your companion, and placing pictures, poems, or prayers for your loved one.
A memorial is a wonderful way to remember a lost bird. It is a place to keep alive the memory of your special bond with your bird. A memory page helps with the grieving process
Those that do not understand the bond that can form between people and their pets may make insensitive comments.
Not everyone in the world has had the opportunity to share the unconditional love many of us who have shared our lives with pets experience.
Fortunately, however, there are millions more people who do understand why someone would grieve over the loss of a pet, and there are increasing numbers of books, hotlines and web pages dedicated to support and grieving as well as professionals offering individual and group support.
The joy and happiness of sharing your life and home with a pet far exceeds the pain and grief one goes through during the hard years of dealing with pet loss. Much like losing anyone dear to us, the pain eventually gives way to the lessons, memories and spirit they have given us during their lives on earth, and make us better for having shared our lives with them.
All the birds and animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The birds and animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run, fly and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers and his wings begin to flutter. Suddenly he begins to run or fly from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved sweet head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...
