Suddenly the strong wind that the Swiftwind summoned slammed into the horse and its riders as the Human redoubled his efforts to keep his steed from throwing them off of its back, “Where in the Realm did this wind come from?”
The sound of a man and a dwarf speaking through the wind, the elementalist began to stir, ".....hmmm."
“Who cares! Just press on! We’ll get that monster and our reward soon enough!” declared the Dwarf in a voice loud enough to cut through the sound of the high wind.
The yelling was enough to rouse Alyson from her sleep and she yawned, "What now?!"
Slowly but with no less determination than before, the Human and the Dwarf pressed themselves onward to escape the wheat field, follow the Swiftwind and claim their prizes.
The swiftwind chirped again that caused the wind to howl fiercely to the point that it whipped violently towards the unwanted company.
Alyson sat up and leaned against the larger boulder, rolling her eyes, she yawned again with contempt at the two on horseback in the wheat fields.
As the wind picked up the horse neighed and fell over knocking both of its riders to the ground. Falling clear of the horse, the Human slowly crawled over to his steed and tried to comfort the animal to keep it from panicking, “Easy, boy, easy! This wind will let up! Just take it easy!”
The Dwarf got to his feet and stood tall--at least as much as a Dwarf could--against the wind, “Ready to press on?”
The Human looked up at him, “I’m not sure its worth it, friend, an ill wind blows against us. Sorcery is what this is, little else. And my steed can not go on--”
“--But I can!” snapped the Dwarf as he took some rope from the horse’s saddle and tied it around his waist before he handed it to the Human, “Tie this off around you and leave your horse here. We shall press steadily towards the mark. I maybe short in stature, but I am stout of heart. We shall rescue the maiden, capture the creature and claim our reward and profit from this mission.”
The Human did as he was instructed and the Dwarf did as he promised. Due to his low center of gravity and broad frame, the Dwarf was able to resist the high winds and held one hand up against his face to ward off the whipping wheat that lashed against him. The Human could do little better than crawl after his companion and be pulled along. Tired and battered the duo pressed on.
