Alyson sat up and leaned against the larger boulder, rolling her eyes, she yawned again with contempt at the two on horseback in the wheat fields.
As the wind picked up the horse neighed and fell over knocking both of its riders to the ground. Falling clear of the horse, the Human slowly crawled over to his steed and tried to comfort the animal to keep it from panicking, “Easy, boy, easy! This wind will let up! Just take it easy!”
The Dwarf got to his feet and stood tall--at least as much as a Dwarf could--against the wind, “Ready to press on?”
The swiftwind growled with annoyance that the dwarf was being stubborn as usual. The wind blew fiercer than ever so much so that the stout fellow was starting to lift up off the ground briefly.
The Human looked up at him, “I’m not sure its worth it, friend, an ill wind blows against us. Sorcery is what this is, little else. And my steed can not go on--”
“--But I can!” snapped the Dwarf as he took some rope from the horse’s saddle and tied it around his waist before he handed it to the Human, “Tie this off around you and leave your horse here. We shall press steadily towards the mark. I maybe short in stature, but I am stout of heart. We shall rescue the maiden, capture the creature and claim our reward and profit from this mission.”
The Human did as he was instructed and the Dwarf did as he promised. Due to his low center of gravity and broad frame, the Dwarf was able to resist the high winds and held one hand up against his face to ward off the whipping wheat that lashed against him. The Human could do little better than crawl after his companion and be pulled along. Tired and battered the duo pressed on.
"My. My," A tired elementalist said quietly behind the veil of whipping wind, "Never let a dwarf take charge of something you started, horseman," She stood up but still leaned against the rock and in full view of the relentless duo, "because you will never live in down in his home town."
Alyson waited to see if the two of them were either brave or foolish enough to get within striking distance. The worse thing one can do to a dwarf, is lift him off the ground high enough and long enough for him to run in the opposite direction.
