Alyson could see the plumes of smoke rising from the city, "That can't be good. Now, Venger can't say that my friends and I were to blame, on this one." The swiftwind easily caught up with the horse and riders, keeping pace with the equine was a cake walk.
"Venger you say?" asked the Human with a raised eyebrow, "What do you know of our benefactor, my lady?"
She was about to say something when the elementalist gasped at the chaos taking place within the city limits. One big tangled mass of bodies. "What the--?!"
When Alyson and her companions got close enough to Fair Weather to plainly see the source of the fires, they saw a sight straight out of a Hammer House horror film and hell itself. Were-wolves were everywhere. Slashing City Guardsmen, killing frightened citizens, biting helpless victims, overturning vending stalls, feasting on the dead, ripping their way through wooden walls and howling triumphantly over fresh kills.
The Human was speechless as he stared at the sight before him.
The Dwarf hissed, "By Ragok's Black Beard! What caused this?!"
Four of the Were-wolves caught their scent on the wind and charged towards them seeking fresh meat to eat.
Alyson jumped off her summoned creature and sent it away out of harm's way. The swiftwind bolted in the opposite direction of the inferno that ravaged the city. It was gone in a flash, and Alyson unleashed a blast of lightning into the air high above the night sky, summoning a rain storm to quench the flames. The rain came down in a torent of water stamping out most of the flames in minutes. It also caused the werewolves to loose their traction on city streets from time to time.
"Wow!" gasped The Human in complete disbelief, "She's something isn't she?"
"Aye! She's powerful that one, but how long can she keep it up?" inquired the Dwarf
The elementalist sank down towards the ground, she hadn't enough rest yet to command the storm and it was beginning to dissipate, "NNnnnoo...not now, ugh!" Gritting her teeth she tried to stand up but her legs wouldn't budge. She was too tired to do anymore leaving her right in the path of a pack of voracious werewolves. Alyson was exhausted and at this point she was wishing that help would arrive, evening Venger's presence would be a welcome sight...
As the Were-wolves drew closer to the trio, the Human shoved the Dwarf off of the back of his horse and onto the ground.
When the Dwarf looked up towards the Human as if to ask why, the man snapped, "Get the woman and get out of here! Take to the sewers! I'll hold them off!"
The Dwarf merely nodded in agreement and ran over to Alyson, "Sorry about this, woman, but we have to go!"
Summoning up his courage, the Human drew forth his sword from aside his saddle and brandished it before he led his steed into a headlong charge at the Were-wolves, "Tally Ho! Tally Ho!!
The Dwarf grabbed The Elementalist, lifted her up into a Fireman's Carry, ran off the road and down a side ditch to a sewer grate that was fifty yards in front of them. As the Dwarf ran as fast as his short legs could carry him, the retreating sounds of Werewolves howling, a horse neighing, a man screaming and bones breaking could be heard in the near distance. By the time the Dwarf reached the sewer grate and set Alyson down, the only thing that could be heard from where his Human companion chose to make his last stand was silence.
Quickly removing the wrought iron grate which appeared to be three times larger and four times heavier than he was, the Dwarf said to the Elementalist, "Have no fear, woman, we'll be out of harm's way soon enough. Just stick with me and we'll be fine."
Grabbing Alyson once more, the Dwarf shoved the Elementalist inside of the sewer main and pulled the iron grate back into place, "There we go, as safe as we can be. I'd like to see those critters try and reach us now. By the way, who are you anyway, woman?"
