Once The Swordsman placed his hand on the Drowling's shoulder, War Scribe crowed, "All aboard!" And in an instant the Realmers were teleported from the wheat fields of Fair Weather to the Arboretum of The Great Library.
Looking around Irzen complained, "Correct me if I am wrong, but this is NOT the Great Library! Scribe, why did you bring us to The Arboretum?"
"Because my Scruffy, Wuffy Wolfie wanted me to bring us here," the Drowling cooed as she wrapped her arms around Kana's waist and gave The Wolfen a warm hug, "Gee, Kana, your fur is so warm and so soft. You're my Scruffy, Wuffy Wolfie yes you are!"
Alyson rolled her eyes, while Seriah shrugged in disbelief at the drowling's antics.
"Uh! Mistress Kana, I think Lady War Scribe is drooling on you," admitted Serna with a questioning look at The Drowling's behavior.
"Okay, Kana, since we're all here and while War Scribe's channelling her inner Elmira, how about you explain to us what you were talking about earlier." The Swordsman asked as he motioned for Willow Bark to lower Tommy to the ground, "We're here in the Arboretum, there's plenty of plant life around and you have our undivided attention. By all means, proceed."
"Well, I'm a bit hazy on what happened," Kana explained. "But when Waylon stated that my kind has certain abilities I remembered what my Teacher had told me about channeling. He was always telling me to 'pull it in and send it down'. I didn't really understand, but with Gonathrandi I started to get an idea. Then with the incident with War Scribe and Willow and this place, I've had a feeling. Once Waylon clarified it.... well, I think I can absorb magic without much affect to me and release it into the earth, and I wanted someone to attack me with magic. Just magic."
"Empathic magic. Interesting," Seriah nodded, a thought came to mind, "I have heard of such magic. It is rare, even here in the Realm--,"
"You have?" The elementalist cut in.
"Yes. When I was a child long ago. My grandmother told me about such magic. Only, the animal people, like Kana, could harness the natural powers of the world they were born in. It is something that can not be taught, only known. The magic reveals itself to the chosen when the time is right."
"Soft and furry!" purred the Drowling with her eyes completely closed as she enjoyed her contact with the Wolfen.
"War Scribe, can you please release Kana and make good on your role as a Librarian by heading to the library and finding books on healing and resurrection which could save Tommy?" suggested The Ranger as he shook his head at The Chronicler's behavior.
"Oh, alright!" exasperated the Drowling as she released the Wolfen and tore herself away from her sensual pleasure, "I'll be back with a cart full of books on the subject that can help you clowns. Ta-ta!" With that said, War Scribe disappeared from view.
"That maybe so but I don't think this is the right time for it," offered the Swordsman as he turned to the Wolfen, "Kana, I cannot in all good conscience ask Alyson to magically blast you in the hope that (a) you might survive and (b) you might redirect the energy from that attack and channel it into a healing energy that can save Tommy. I honestly don't want to put you and Tommy in the same boat--comatose and at Death's door. I'm sorry, Kana, but I can't ask you to do that--not even on a dare!"
Serna gave Kana's hand a firm squeeze, "Listen to Lord Irzen, Mistress Kana, what if you are wrong? What if High Lady Alyson hurts you and you can't heal yourself? I nearly lost you before to that mean nasty Elf Witch Gonathradi, Mistress Kana, I don't want to lose you now."
Willow stepped forward and placed a comforting hand on the Wolfen's shoulder, "Seriah is right. I believe in you, Kana, and I believe that your time is now. If you are willing to risk your life for the Gamer in this manner, I am willing to help you do it. While the solution to our problem may lie within the books in this library, we should not discount any and all possibilities to save the Gamer. If High Lady Alyson does not wish to aid you in this cause, I will."
The Ranger opened his hand and motioned for Kana to give her Lightning Bow to him, "The decision is yours."
*********** Interlude ****************
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
Nor was I incorrect. I was swept on into it without any slackening of my apparent velocity. I was spun and whirled along blazing ways, passing through substance-less clouds of glitter and shine. There were no areas of resistance, as in the Pattern itself, my initial impetus seeming sufficient to bear me throughout. A whirlwind tour of the Milky Way? A drowning man swept among canyons of coral? An insomniac sparrow passing over an amusement park of a July Fourth evening? These my thoughts as I recapitulated my recent passage in this transformed fashion.
