For a moment it appeared Kana's efforts were successful. Some color returned to Tommy's skin, and he began to breath deeper, as if he were but sleeping. Then the grass around the Gamer stirred as if blown by a breeze. A ripple of…something? nothing? passed through the glade, and the Gamer started to slowly fade from view. With effort, those nearby could see the grass crushed beneath his body.
"Hmm?" The elementalist noticed the gamer's movement that was ever so slightly, "I believe he's coming back to us....slowly."
The Swordsman gave The Elementalist a quizzical look of disbelief, "You've got to be kidding me! I admit that I'm no Mage but I think Tommy's growing transparency is not a good thing."
"No Swordsman it is not," came an all too familiar voice from behind a nearby tree. Dungeon Master stepped into view as the gem he wore around his neck began to glow very brightly.
"Dungeon Master, where in the Realm have you been?" snapped Irzen as he turned to address their Guide, "We could have used you help long before now. You've got some explaining to do."
As the Gnome moved closer towards The Gamer, Tommy's body began to glow brightly as well. So much so that the bright lights between Dungeon Master and Tommy Tanaka literally enveloped the entire group. Irzen, Willow and Serna did their best to shield their eyes with their hands and only removed their makeshift veils when both lights dissipated.
However, once the lights reduced their brilliance to a soft pulsating luminosity, the entire group no longer stood within The Arboretum of The Great Library. They appeared to be on a celestial plane encompassed by a sea of stars and constellations stretching from horizon to horizon. Dungeon Master walked towards Tommy, looked down at him and sadly shook his head, "Just because you can attempt a feat, Gamer, does not necessarily mean that you should do it."
At the Dungeon Master's words, the Adventurers experienced a sense of communal déjà vu. But his words were not the ones they remembered.
Lo, a shadow of horror is risen
In Eternity! Unknown, unprolific!
Self-closd, all-repelling: what Demon
Hath form'd this abominable void
This soul-shudd'ring vacuum?--Some said
"It is Urizen", But unknown, abstracted
Brooding secret, the dark power hid.
Times on times he divided, & measur'd
Space by space in his ninefold darkness
Unseen, unknown! changes appeard
In his desolate mountains rifted furious
By the black winds of perturbation
For he strove in battles dire
In unseen conflictions with shapes
Bred from his forsaken wilderness,
Of beast, bird, fish, serpent & element
Combustion, blast, vapour and cloud.
Dark revolving in silent activity:
Unseen in tormenting passions;
An activity unknown and horrible;
A self-contemplating shadow,
In enormous labours occupied
But Eternals beheld his vast forests
Age on ages he lay, clos'd, unknown
Brooding shut in the deep; all avoid
The petrific abominable chaos
His cold horrors silent, dark Urizen
Prepar'd: his ten thousands of thunders
Rang'd in gloom'd array stretch out across
The dread world, & the rolling of wheels
As of swelling seas, sound in his clouds
In his hills of stor'd snows, in his mountains
Of hail & ice; voices of terror,
Are heard, like thunders of autumn,
When the cloud blazes over the harvests.
The Gnome turned to the others, "Gather around, my young pupils, we do not have much time to save The Gamer's life."
Dungeon Master sat down in the lotus position behind Tommy and placed his hands on either side of The Gamer's temples, "I can restore him to health but I will need all of your assistance in doing so. The Gamer is fading from existence because he has lost himself within his own magic. What I need from each of you is to speak to him and remind him of who he is, what he is, and what he means to you. Archer, you may proceed first. Then the Elementalist, the Assassin, the Shield-Bearer, the Ranger and lastly you, Swordsman. Because you have known him the longest of anyone here, your testimony to who and what he was and is will be the crucial anchor that shall bind his torn soul to his shattered body. Does everyone understand?"
Willow, Serna and Irzen nodded in agreement.
"Good, now Archer," Dungeon Master turned towards Kana, "You may begin."
Again, the Gnome's words evoked other words, the memory of a familiar song or poem. Perhaps something the Gamer had recited during a shared meal?
Of the primeval Priests assum'd power,
When Eternals spurn'd back his religion;
And gave him a place in the north,
Obscure, shadowy, void, solitary.
Eternals I hear your call gladly,
Dictate swift winged words, & fear not
To unfold your dark visions of torment.
