Hi,
If possible, please share this email with others at your club/organization. I am a relay operator from Riverbank, California. I have worked as a relay operator for many years and enjoy working with the deaf and hard of hearing, as I find them to be a very warm group of individuals. I may lose my job because 500 IP relay operators are being laid off here in Riverbank, California, and operators are being hired to replace us in the Phillipines. IP Relay services are a taxpayer funded service, so you and I are paying to have me laid off and have my position filled in the Phillipines. If you feel this is wrong (and don't want your taxpayer money used this way), then please contact the FCC and ask them to update their contracting rules to prevent the outsourcing of taxpayer funded service-type positions. Also, please contact your congressmen to push for legislation to end the outsourcing of taxpayer funded positions (for service type positions, at least). Would we outsource 911 operators, teachers, policemen, or other taxpayer funded positions? No, of course not. Please help stop the government from outsourcing your relay operators! Please email back with any questions. Thank you.
P.S. If any of my personal information pops up with this email, please keep it confidential. I don't want to be added to the lay off list if I am not already on it.
Also, please be aware that some of the lay offs at our center are due to the fact that a certain amount of fraud was taking place within the IP Relay system and our company found a way to stop it (which I am thankful for). However, that doesn't provide an excuse for laying off American relay operators and transferring the rest of the positions to the Phillipines. Thank you.
